Te Whetu Rangatira ~ Stars of the Future

Where we do things slightly different.

Relationships come first and holistic growth is just as important as school work.

This programme supports young people who are highly vulnerable to the effects of many difficult societal issues. The programme is available to students across the Matamata-Piako district and caters for those ages 13-16.( A referral from one of the local High Schools or the Ministry of Education is required). TWR looks at engaging young people in a style of learning that puts them at the centre.

Our programme currently runs out of Matamata. Our tutors work hard to provide a safe environment and a programme that advocates both for numeracy and literacy and exposure to new experiences; music, fitness, creative arts and life skills. Something that is important to ensuring the success of the programme is the relationship between the young people and whanau, supporting adults who work alongside them and the community.

It is important to understand that these young people, like all young people have something valuable to contribute. Starfish and TWR are here to support our students to reach their full potential and the community is essential in encouraging this.
